Fend Off the Common Cold in Your Sleep

Fend Off the Common Cold in Your Sleep

It’s a no-brainer that getting enough sleep is crucial to our overall health. But did you know that if you can squeeze in at least seven hours of sleep every night, you’ll be less likely to get sick?

National Public Radio recently published a story that details a study conducted at the University of California. The study investigated how well our bodies fight off live cold viruses when we are getting six hours of sleep or less in comparison to if we get at least seven hours of sleep. Of the 164 participants, 39 percent of those who were only able to get six hours of sleep or less ended up getting sick.

So how well are you fighting off the cold in your sleep? It sounds like getting seven hours or more will help make sure that you are not only prepared for tomorrow’s activities, but prepare you to fend off colds and other illnesses too. Curious to learn more? Listen to NPR’s podcast.
