My enjoyment comes from serving my patients and being able to deliver a standard of care that comforts them and reduces their anxiety. After all, we dread going to the doctor, but I strive to change that feeling. Being in the position that I am, I am able to change their health by significantly improving their sleep disordered breathing by using non-invasive oral appliances. In addition, we can easily eliminate their snoring, which is always a positive thing for their bed partners. Following my dental education at the University of Tennessee, I completed a residency in General Dentistry. Sad to say, there was no mention, in my years of studies, on the oral markers in identifying patients with a possible sleep disorder. During my early years in practicing General Dentistry, I embarked on identifying patients with Temporomandibular Joint disorders (TMJ) and noticed that these patients presented with some degree of a sleep disorder, that went totally missed by the many physicians and dentists that they had visited before arriving at my practice. This led me down the path to the understanding and education about sleep disordered breathing that led me to treating many of these patients with oral appliances. I have lectured, both locally and nationally, on various topics related to the dentist’s role in treating obstructive sleep apnea as well as topics related to Temporomandibular Joint disorders. My career is dedicated to patient care, educating and mentoring dentists about sleep medicine, and learning through collaborative clinical research. At the Fusion Sleep Center, I work with a team of other Board Certified Sleep Medicine Specialists to provide the most technologically advanced dental solutions for patients with sleep disordered breathing. As the Director of the Dental Sleep Medicine Program, I work together with our physicians and research team members to deliver unique therapeutic options available only at Fusion Sleep.
