Sigurjon Kristjansson
Chief Executive Officer
Sigurjon Kristjansson is a co-founder and one of the principals of Fusion Sleep.
He serves at the company as Chief Executive Officer.
Before co-founding the company, Mr. Kristjansson helped guide the development of Flaga
hf. Medical Devices from a startup company that developed and manufactured sleep
diagnostic equipment into a global company recognized as a leader in the development,
production and distribution of sleep diagnostic technology employed in both clinical and research applications.
Key milestones include:
1994 – Director of Research and Development of Flaga
1998 – Assumed roles of Chairman
as well as that of Vice President of Research and
Development of Flaga. Under his leadership the company developed many market
leading products such as the Embletta & Embla sleep systems, Compass sleep screening
systems, XactTrace sensor, Somnologica sleep analysis software and the Enterprise
sleep business management application.
2002 – Initiated and guided Flaga’s strategic acquisition of Medcare Diagnostics,
a US based competitor of Flaga, to form Medcare, an international company recognized
as a global leader in sleep diagnostics
2003 - Following Medcare’s listing
on the Icelandic Stock Exchange in November,
Mr. Kristjansson transitioned into the role of Executive Vice President & Chief
Technology Officer of Medcare. Since then Medcare has become a part of Flaga Group
hf, a holding company which also purchased SleepTech LLC in April 2004. SleepTech
is the largest operator of sleep diagnostics and treatment services in the New York
Tri-State area.
Mr. Kristjansson holds a Dipl Ing T.U. degree (MS) in Electrical and Communications
Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany and a BS, Cand Scient degree
in Engineering from the University of Iceland. He is a member of the American Academy
of Sleep Medicine and a CEO member of Vistage International, a global membership
organization for business leaders.
Autobiography
Before I first got introduced to the science of sleep I had no idea what adventure
awaited me. It began in 1994 when I met Helgi Kristbjarnarson, MD, PhD who later
became my close colleague, friend and mentor. It only took him a few minutes to convince
me about how exciting and rewarding the field of sleep would become and how technology
could dramatically change the way it was practiced.
Being able to participate in the advancement of sleep medicine over the past decade
has been a tremendous experience, especially seeing diagnostic and therapeutic services
become available to more people and efficient treatment solutions being developed.
However, the field is still in it's infancy. The exceptional team behind Fusion
Sleep set out to seize the opportunity
to deliver a whole new level of professionalism and care to patients, through integrated
clinical pathways, translational research and customer service. Concisely; we are
shaping the future of sleep medicine.
