Answer
Recent studies demonstrate a link between repeated arousals caused by interruptions in breathing during sleep (Sleep Apnea) and insulin resistance. In fact, the severity of insulin resistance is directly related to the severity of Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB). Studies also suggest that patients with apnea are three to four times more likely to develop Type II Diabetes than people without apnea.
